The Secret to Growing Your Email List: Our Top Strategy Revealed

- Grow my email list.
If you've ever been part of our mastermind, you know that I always ask, "What is your client attraction plan, and what are you doing to get more eyes on your business?" But here's the thing—relationships are what truly create momentum. Relationships build trust, and that trust eventually leads to sales. So, if you're feeling slow or stuck, ask yourself: where are you spending your time building relationships?
In this blog post, I want to share three things we did this season to grow our email list organically—and the one thing that made the biggest impact.
Now if you follow me on Instagram you saw me playing around with ads. We have run ads in the past and have not had great luck. I played around with IG new ad feature which pointed people to our podcast reel and then eventually our private podcast. The results: Well first I didn't spend a ton of money, we are talking like $300 ($100 a week), and not much happened. I did see some increased engagement on our account but that is about it. My takeaway was, hire an expert, but I don't want to invest in that kind of money right now. So I did what I teach all of you and went back to our anti-social client attraction plan.
1. Pitching to Dream Podcasts
In 2023, I set a bold goal to appear on over 300 podcasts (not including my own), and I achieved it. This effort played a massive role in getting our brand where it is today. However, after such an intense push, I needed a break. But now, I’m back at it, creating a new list of dream podcasts I want to be featured on.
Pitching myself to these shows has been more than just a numbers game; it’s about strategic visibility. Appearing on other podcasts has allowed me to tap into new audiences, build my reputation as a small business strategist, and share insights on topics like strategy and entrepreneurship and business strategy vs brand strategy. Each podcast appearance is an opportunity to connect with a new audience, and every time I do, my email list grows.
2. Joining Networking Groups
I’ve learned that being in the right room—whether virtual or in person—can lead to incredible opportunities. This season, I committed to having at least one call a week where I'm engaging with other businesswomen in a group setting. The results have been nothing short of amazing, with 90% of my collaborations coming from these interactions.
Networking has not only grown my list but also strengthened my understanding of the business growth strategy framework that works best for my community. These relationships have led to joint ventures, collaborations, and speaking opportunities, all of which contribute to my long-term business growth.
Introducing a new private podcast series that’s just for you if you’re sick of all the Instagram BS! (or insert social channel of your choice). You can build a business without being a slave to the social engine. Grab the free series.
3. Creating a Podcast Series that Leads to a Lead Magnet
Our "CEO Week Challenge" is our most successful lead magnet to date. We decided to repurpose this challenge into a three-part podcast series, updating it for 2024 and leading listeners back to the original challenge. This strategy allowed us to create reusable content that we can leverage throughout the year.
The podcast series serves as both a lead magnet and a product. We've also created bonus YouTube videos that are currently set up as a playlist on our YouTube channel, further extending the life of this content. This approach aligns perfectly with the business strategy specialist mindset—using existing resources in creative ways to maximize impact.
4. Highlighting Other Women Business Owners
Now, for the strategy that worked best and might surprise you—simple swaps and highlighting other women business owners. Every week this season, we’ve sent out an email spotlighting another business owner. Not only has this been a wonderful way to support other women, but it has also opened up so many conversations for lead magnet swaps, collaborations, networking, and speaking engagements.
This strategy is more than just a feel-good effort; it's an effective business growth strategy framework that builds community while expanding reach. By sharing the spotlight with other entrepreneurs, we’ve created a ripple effect—each feature opens doors to new opportunities for everyone involved.
The Power of Community and Collaboration
Our brand is all about community, and this strategy has brought that mission to life. By introducing my audience to other amazing women in our community, I've facilitated connections and collaborations that go beyond just business. This network effect has been incredible to watch and even more rewarding to be a part of.
When you think about your own marketing strategies for small business, consider how you can serve first and stand out in a way that feels organic and good. Whether it's pitching yourself to podcasts, joining networking groups, or simply highlighting others in your community, the key is to build relationships and offer value.
New Podcast Series Alert: "It’s Not Your Launch, It’s Your Audience"
Because I love this topic so much, I’m excited to announce a brand-new podcast series on our sister podcast, "Ditch the Social Drama." The series, titled "It’s Not Your Launch, It’s Your Audience," shares real-life case studies on what’s happening in 2024 and how you can grow your dream client list. You can listen to the new episodes by heading over to www.hollymariehaynes.com/social or simply DM me "SOCIALDRAMA," and I’ll send them your way.
In the ever-evolving world of strategy and entrepreneurship, it's essential to stay adaptable and focused on building relationships that last. By implementing these strategies, you can organically grow your email list and create a thriving business community that supports both your growth and the growth of others.
