Episode 630: 3 Visibility Shifts Female Entrepreneurs Need to Go From Best Kept Secret to Best Known (Part 1 of 4)

business strategy client attraction marketing without social media podcast Jul 06, 2026

You don't need another certification. You need more people to know how incredible you already are.

In this episode of Crush the Rush, Holly is joined by branding strategist and former investigative journalist Amanda Berg, founder of Liberty Type. Together we're unpacking one of the biggest myths keeping business owners stuck: believing more credentials will solve a visibility problem.

If you have ever thought "I'm really good at what I do, so why is it still this hard to book clients?" then this conversation is for you.

About Amanda Berg

Amanda Berg is a branding strategist and a former investigative journalist, and she is the founder of Liberty Type. The journalism background shapes how she works: she is after the clearest version of your story, not the most impressive one. She built Liberty Type around long term client relationships instead of one off projects, created the Best Known Challenge, and hosts her own podcast. Her focus is messaging clarity for expert business owners who are excellent at the work and invisible in the market.

Why the clearest business wins, not the most qualified

Amanda shares why the businesses that become household names aren't always the most qualified and they're simply the clearest. She and Holly work through why so many skilled experts stay underbooked, the real difference between credentials and credibility, and why another certification will not fix a problem that was never about your skill.

From there it gets practical. Specific messaging beats impressive messaging, because a client has to instantly recognize herself in what you say. A story builds trust faster than a list of qualifications. And standing out in a crowded market has more to do with being easy to repeat than with being the most decorated person in the room.

Amanda also walks through her Best Known Challenge, how she uses Fathom call recordings alongside AI to pull her clients' real language and sharpen their messaging, which brands she thinks are winning visibility right now, and why email is still her favorite platform after years of building an agency.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Amanda Berg?

Amanda Berg is a branding strategist, a former investigative journalist, and the founder of Liberty Type. She works with expert business owners on messaging clarity, helping them say what they do in a way clients instantly recognize. She created the Best Known Challenge and hosts her own podcast. She joined this episode to explain why visibility, not another credential, is what turns a skilled expert into a booked one.

Why do talented experts stay underbooked?

Because being good at the work and being easy to understand are two different skills. Amanda's argument is that the businesses everyone knows are not the most qualified ones, they are the clearest ones. When a potential client cannot repeat what you do in a sentence, she cannot refer you either. The bottleneck is almost never your ability, it is how legible your message is to someone who does not already know you.

What is the difference between credentials and credibility?

Credentials are what you have earned. Credibility is whether someone believes you can help them. Amanda's point is that the two are not the same, and that adding another certification does nothing for the second one. Credibility comes from clear positioning, real stories, and being visible enough that people have heard of you before they need you.

How do you stand out in a crowded market?

By getting more specific, not more impressive. Amanda says specific messaging works because a client has to instantly recognize herself in what you say, and broad language gives her nothing to catch on. She also makes the case that a story creates trust faster than a list of facts, since people remember the story and forget the credential list.

Does another certification help you get more clients?

Usually not, if the real problem is that not enough people know you exist. Amanda calls this out as one of the biggest myths keeping business owners stuck: treating a visibility problem like a skill problem. Another certification takes time and money and changes nothing about how many people can name what you do. Fixing the message is almost always the higher-return move.

How can AI help improve your brand messaging?

Amanda uses Fathom to record client calls, then uses AI to pull out the exact language those clients use about their own problems. That gives her real phrasing to build messaging from instead of guessing at it. The useful part is the listening, not the writing. AI is doing pattern-finding across real conversations, and the human is still deciding what matters.
